Gwents Got Some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent the morning at western ave looking for the 2 Waxwings that were reported. No joy first thing so we headed to Ynysyfro for a look.An ad winter Med Gull was picked up here and a female Goosander.Headed back to western ave for another look but still no joy.Did have a nice cup of tea and biscuits here tho.Whilst back home i was planning to go back up at about 2:30.Made myself a cup of coffee and stood out on the balcony when i heard a Waxwing flying over.It decided to make a brief stop in one of the tallest trees before flying off again.A search of Caerleon then followed but no more Waxwings were seen.

Scauparooney!!

Following up a tip off i headed to the Nedern Brook. Was a little bit concerned about the amount of dark around the nail but was told this was quite normal in first winters.Happy days and the Gwent Year list clocked up one more.

Species Number ???

Black Redstart showed pretty well at Peterstone Gout in a freezing cold northerly wind.
It was seen on both sides of the gout and went missing for long periods.
Where are the Waxwings?

YR And LR

Highlights at these two reservoirs were 1Goldeneye at YR(That was it here)At LR a Water Rail put on a good show in front of Greenpool Hide.A Heron having trouble trying to swallow a huge Pike(i Think).A few Goosanders and 50+ Lapwing was the best of the rest.

Invasion Of The Berry Munchers

Massive numbers of Fieldfare and Redwing this morning in the general area known as Goldcliff.Every bush in every field seemed to be jammed packed with them. All we need know is a Waxwing or two.
