182 was the final total after 12 months of hard work. Some Good birds for the county of Gwent were seen and some easy ones missed.Never mind that's birding.Do i do it all again(yeah most probably).MANY THANKS TO ALL THE OTHER GWENT BIRDERS WHO TEXT PHONED AND E-MAILED ME WITH BIRD NEWS OVER THE YEAR.THANKS AGAIN.
Spent the morning at western ave looking for the 2 Waxwings that were reported. No joy first thing so we headed to Ynysyfro for a look.An ad winter Med Gull was picked up here and a female Goosander.Headed back to western ave for another look but still no joy.Did have a nice cup of tea and biscuits here tho.Whilst back home i was planning to go back up at about 2:30.Made myself a cup of coffee and stood out on the balcony when i heard a Waxwing flying over.It decided to make a brief stop in one of the tallest trees before flying off again.A search of Caerleon then followed but no more Waxwings were seen.
Following up a tip off i headed to the Nedern Brook. Was a little bit concerned about the amount of dark around the nail but was told this was quite normal in first winters.Happy days and the Gwent Year list clocked up one more.
Highlights at these two reservoirs were 1Goldeneye at YR(That was it here)At LR a Water Rail put on a good show in front of Greenpool Hide.A Heron having trouble trying to swallow a huge Pike(i Think).A few Goosanders and 50+ Lapwing was the best of the rest.
