Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now

Friday morning news broke of Eastern Crowned Warbler up North.A few Texts went around to see if anyone was interested in going up.Although in the middle of the Credit Crunch and work being quiet at the moment i couldn't get out of Saturdays duties.Still showing all day up until dusk.Saturday night was spent making a few calls trying to rustle up some interest in going Sunday Morning.Only one other was up for it.The thing is all other records in the WP have been one day birds and the weather wasn't looking to good.Should we stay or should we go now. After making my mind up of going 100 times and then not we left it at that.I still got up in the middle of the night and nearly left the front door 3 times. Then Craig rang to see if i had already left or not and to see if i fancied going over to Brean Down .So at first light we found ourselves at Berrow Dunes.A few finches and Redwing went over. Then up onto Brean Down for a look around.Had a Seawatch from the shelter at the end which produced 1 G N Diver down channel close in and a Juv Gannet struggling down as well.As we came out of the Shelter 5 Crossbill flew over and then 500Yrds from the shelter a Firecrest showed well.Managed to salvage these pics due to the camera being on the wrong setting.

A Very Quiet Few Days.

A quiet weekend on Scilly.Highlights being, Little Bunting, Red Breasted Flycatcher,Rose Coloured Starling,Yellow Browed Warbler,Wryneck Long Billed Dowitcher and a few Firecrest thrown in.Couldn't make it to St Martins for the Red Throated Pipit due to the flights home and one being found on St Marys early in the morning.(The wrong choice was made)It felt more like the middle of August than the Second week of October.

They Are All Coming At Once

Checking out the waders at Goldcliff this morning when the pager went off to say that a Dartford Warbler was at St Brides. No second thoughts i headed straight over there.Upon my arrival Skylarks and Meadow Pipits were everywhere.10 minutes later i was viewing it messing around in a few bushes. It stayed faithful to a few bushes and was still showing well when i left at 12:30.

Dawn Raid

A Dawn visit to Goldcliff produced 2 Whooper Swans that flew in for 20 minutes before flying off NE.
The usual bits and bobs flying over with a scattering of Siskin and Redpoll were the best of the rest.Llandegfedd in the afternoon produced singles of little Egret, lapwing and Kingfisher.41 Tufted duck loafing in the middle and a Goosander down at the fish nets. The gulls are back in the Pre Roost from the fisherman's car Park.Nothing interesting amongst them today tho.Water levels are dropping quickly at the moment, nice bit of mud showing now.I think the water levels are dropping because of the building work due to start there shortly on the new Sailing club building.

Day two

Got down to the Pec field an hour after dawn this morning to join the Masses in search of the pipit. No sign of the Pipit but the Pec Sand Still. An evening visit to the golden cliff produced 1 Manx and nothing else.A quick visit to the field at dusk just produced the regulars.

The Pec Field

Started checking from the third platform where the best of the birds were 3 Golden Plover and 1 Barwit,Then a call to say there was a Pec Sand on the Wet field in Caerleon.15 Minutes later and after being stuck in traffic i was watching the Pec with CJ.I did predict something turning up this weekend but the plan was at the Pools,Still time for something else to turn up at the pools.Anyway just as it was getting dark a few Wagtails flew over us gong to roost.Straight after the wagtails a Pipit flew over calling (shreep Shreep).I thought Richards straight away but its been a long time since hearing or seeing one.The Bird will be searched for at first light. The Wet field must now be called the Pec Field in light of this Amazing Record!!
The new Rarity Hotspot,Now called the Pec Field.
